On Friday evening we were guests of Newhaven Ladies FC and what an amazing destination it turned out to be. It was still warm and balmy and the pitch location had an
amazing backdrop of the Dieppe ferry arriving in at half-time. Surreal!

The Eagles were strong throughout with a mean defensive unit, calm and collected midfield and a coordinated attack. Our Captain Jill was pleased with performances from the whole squad with some stand-outs of note.

Michelle B rightly deserved Player of the Match for one of her incredible headers which found the back of the net, as well as her defensive play and delicious balls up the line to Laura on the left-wing - what a talent. Steph earned high praise for her tight and skilful ball control whilst Sam caused havoc racing down the right wing like a terrier, and Michelle A-B was simply sublime with her passing, movement and cool head.

Our opposition played with great spirit and humour - it was great to see some of them again whom we've met in previous Ringmer tournaments.

Special shout out to Si (our very own Ted Lasso without the accent) for his direction and support throughout our Flexi League journey - we appreciate you sir.

U15s (H) v SOUTHWICK 6-0

9/29/2026

That's two wins on the bounce but facing a Southwick side without subs, we knew they'd look to hit us on the break while we dominated possession. It took until the 28th minute to break the deadlock, Serena finishing well after several good chances followed quickly with goals by Jamanda and Tia to make it 3-0 at half time.

In the second half Freya H won the ball back high up the pitch to tee up Daisy for our fourth, before getting on the scoresheet herself with a tight offside call falling in her favour. Jamanda rounded things off with a second of her own, chasing a lost cause, winning the ball, and finishing well inside the post.

In midfield Imogen, in her first game for the team, won the ball well and Daisy, Lily, Sophie, Laura and Mia all worked hard through the middle, driving play forward for our attackers.

Soph deputised in goal for the absent Leah and was superb, keeping a clean sheet with solid kicking. Alana was solid at the back making a real difference in the second half. Freya Walker was energetic and unlucky not to score, while Serena had a hat-full of chances. Lacey was strong at the back, with Jemima covering well both on the right and in the centre.

Player of the Match went to Jamanda for a second time this season after her two-goal, high-energy display.

Six goals is a strong result, even if we know we can be more ruthless in front of goal.

U13s SUSSEX COUNTY CUP (H) v STEYNING 4-0

9/29/2026

We marched on in the County Cup after a confident win today. The game started brightly with an early goal for Maisie, set up superbly by Vez. Steyning grew into the game while the gap stayed at one but Chloe stepped up to smash home her first goal of the season making it two with an assist by Alice.

At the back, Annie, Molly, Jess and Lauren worked hard alongside Char to protect the goal, with Freya and Pia largely untroubled between the sticks. We enjoyed a long spell of corner after corner; the deliveries were excellent, our heading less so - plenty to work on there.

Maisie continued her scoring form in the second half with a delightful finish from the right. Olive caused problems down the left and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet herself. Vez wrapped up the win with a lovely finish to make four.

Notable performances came from Annie, again rock solid at the back, Char for her timely tackling, and Jess Walker for her tireless running throughout.

Next week brings our second league game, away to Rustington Otters, a team we've faced before and one that promises a good contest.

Special thanks to our local referee and assistant Greg for running the line - grass roots isn't possible without you.

Eagles fly high in Flexi League opener

We began our Flexi recreational league campaign in style, announcing ourselves as a side to watch for our organisation, teamwork and positive attitude. With a strong starting line‑up of Michelle B in goal; Michelle AB and Iwona in defence; a midfield three of Jill, Rachel and Angela; and a front three of Laura, Chloe and Hayley, plus Anika and Harriet making her big‑pitch debut, we were well‑structured and ready.

From the first whistle, we moved the ball with purpose, pressing forward and keeping Pevensey under sustained pressure. Jill found excellent pockets of space around the edge of the box, linking play and driving us forward, not once, not twice, but three times... Hat-Trick! Harriet slotted in confidently at the back, with Anika adding energy in midfield, and the team maintained strong momentum throughout the half. Pevensey looked for ways to break through, but Michelle B was commanding, claiming loose balls, organising the back line, and turning defence into attack with composed distribution.

After the break, we continued to control possession and create regular opportunities through patient build‑up and wide play. Angela finished off a flowing passing move, while Chloe capped the performance with a powerful left‑footed strike following another well‑worked attack.

Vice‑Captain Michelle A‑B praised the team’s passing and movement, the strong wing play from Laura and Angela, and the whole squad’s work rate in tracking back and supporting one another.

Looking ahead, she highlighted communication and composure in attacking areas as key development points, encouraging players to take an extra touch and pick their spot. Above all, she celebrated the balance of competitiveness and enjoyment, exactly what Flexi League football is about.

Jill rounded off her day as Captain with an outstanding all‑round display and was deservedly named Player of the Match. Bring on the next one! ⚽💪

U13s (A) v Polegate Grasshoppers 5-1

Unfamiliar with this team we started with a 3-1-3-1 formation and quickly realised they had a player who could potentially score from anywhere inside our half so we had to snuff out that threat as best we could.

Molly took player of the match - her long goal kicks took the pressure off their attacks in both halves and without that we potentially could have conceded even more goals. Our strikers managed just 1 goal today but on another day it could have
been a different story.

Maisie who took on the role of central midfield, battling against their most dangerous player and created chances that unfortunately didn't materialise.
Char and Jess C, our trusty left and right backs, fired in throw ins and bravely defended.
Alice showed resilience with her constant effort and Vez and Chloe both had numerous dangerous runs and chances.
Lily also impressed with her attacking runs and some great corner kicks!

We haven’t had a game quite as challenging as that for a while; there were some mature performances from players staying focused and continuing to battle on despite the score line which bodes well for future testing fixtures.

U15s First win of the season away to St Leonards 2-13

We're up and flying with points on the board! 🦅

Weirdly a 2-13 scoreline doesn't reflect the game - we were dominant throughout and could have scored more - it really was a great team performance and one we deserved.

Tia took player of the match, scoring her first ever goal for the team, assisting on another, and was positive and energetic throughout the entire game. We had three hat-tricks today. Serena, Jamanda and Freya W all scored goals and worked hard setting up others to score.

Lily was another key player bossing the middle of the park, winning balls and even a few headers🔥
Freya H scored 2 plus had one unfairly ruled offside
Daisy completed the haul of 13 with a delightful shot
Leah was solid in goal keeping the back of the net covered
Alana, Jemima, Mia and Lacey were great in defence today with Lacey leading out
Laura did the hard work in the middle, along with daisy and Tia

It's fair to say every player had impact today and should be proud of themselves. What a result!

U13s Sussex County Cup (H) v Roffey Robins Athletic 4-0

Our U13 campaign started with a local derby against our old enemy Roffey robins. Today was comfortable and showcased how we have improved year-on-year; our efforts were rewarded with a straight win, no goals conceded.

It was a tale of great performances across the park.
Annie took player of the match for defensive work that Virgil van dijk would be jealous of - strong and relentless at winning the ball.
Jess cluer remains a total terror on the left, winning the ball and playing positively forward. And a great captain to boot.
Vez scored two really good goals today. She's so natural and confident in front of goal.
Likewise Maisie was the engine running up and down and pushing for goals. She scored two today, both nice finishes.
Lily was exceptional. She won the ball, drove forward, and at the right times pulled back to recycle the ball. She delivered great passes and played with energy and passion. Well-done.

Thanks to all the parents for cheering the girls on and our coaches Andy, Greg and Russell for managing the game so well today.

We are out the nest and flying Eagles. Let's go! 🦅

U15s Challenge Cup (A) v Coldean Colts 11-1

Sunday was the county cup, and we drew the holders in the first round; two divisions above and with some extremely good players, this was going to be tough.

And it was. They scored good goals throughout the game. Nothing like last week though as we improved defensively and made tackles. The quality differential was clear though and in football, that's how it goes. I'm sure division 1 teams know playing Liverpool will be a loss, but they do their best anyway, and we did that today.

For the second week running Jemima was outstanding at the back. Up against their best player (number 8) could have been demoralising but she kept going and should be proud of each time she stopped her.

Laura's move onto the middle of the park made a difference. Her playing alongside the existing trio made us competitive in that space. Soph played really well today taking the player of the match award home after a solid performance.

Mia dropped into left back and again this was a sound move, was active and aggressive where it mattered.

Jamanda scored the best goal of the game (imo) with a lovely assist from Freya H. The goal was one to remember. Top bins.

Next week we head to Hastings to play at Leonard's, before finishing the month at home. Thanks to the parents who ran the line as always, we can't do it without your help.

We've played two tough games, one against a team dropping down a division, and one two divisions above so nothing to concern ourselves with if we are creating chances and scoring goals and, of course, enjoying it!

Final Score: Horsham Eagles 3 - Newhaven Girls 10

Both managers agreed the score line didn't tell the real story - football does that sometimes. A 6-10 loss would've felt fairer given the effort put
in on a very warm day.

The Wake Up Call: This game showed us exactly how we need to adapt. Competitive teams get at you, and this lot did just that - three players constantly running at our back four, fighting hard to win the ball in our
box. Almost every goal came from six to eight yards out, usually after a missed tackle. That's our focus now.

The Lesson: tackle hard, win the ball, don't turn your back, don't stop until it's won. Throw yourself in if you have to, just win the ball. Don't lunge early, don't wait too long, stay switched on. Training plan already writing itself.

Going Forward: Newhaven's defenders weren't comfortable facing their own goal; panicked into throw-ins rather than risk losing it and we capitalised on it by:
Daisy opening her account with a lovely looped finish over the keeper
Freya H striking it clean, right to left, a classic striker's goal
Freya W tapping in a slick ball from Jamanda
Jamanda winning a penalty but sadly shot too close to the keeper
Laura hitting the side netting and Freya H narrowly missing a late one-on-one

Team Shout-Outs:
Player of the Match Jamanda, on her debut - more like that and we'll be flying this season!
Jemima strong in defence, proactive winning the ball back and playing forward.
Daisy, Lily and Mia covered a huge midfield, pressing hard and working the channels.
Leah kept us moving up the pitch with her kicking, stayed focused all game to keep the shots out.

Looking Ahead: Newhaven is a team we want to be beating by season's end, once we're tougher and smarter about disrupting their play. We've got the quality - now we need the edge. On a practical note; match day squads are now 16 players, so we can bring more girls and potentially bring in the Loxwood girls too, if they fancy it.

Thanks to everyone who trekked to Newhaven. Next up: Coldean Colts in the County Cup. We are up and running, Eagles! 🦅 Onwards and upwards! 😎
